Stacks of freshly milled lumber and raw logs from Sharpe Tree Service saw milling in Southwestern Ontario.

Don’t let good wood go to waste. Sharpe Tree Service offers saw milling across Southwestern Ontario – turning logs from your own property into usable lumber. If you have logs from a removal, a windfall, or a bush lot harvest, we can mill them into boards, slabs, beams, and timber instead of paying to haul them away and then paying again for store-bought lumber.

Call (226) 271-8969 to discuss your logs.

Why Mill Your Own Logs

When a large tree comes down – whether it was removed, fell naturally, or came down as part of a bush lot clearing – the trunk often still holds real value as usable lumber instead of waste.

Many property owners choose to mill their own logs for practical and personal reasons:

  • Lumber for building projects – including barns, sheds, fencing, decking, framing, and custom builds
  • Live-edge slabs for tables, countertops, and mantels – especially from species like walnut, oak, and maple
  • Beams and timbers for post-and-beam construction, barn restoration, or structural use
  • Preserving meaningful trees – turning a family tree or memorial tree into something lasting
  • Reducing waste and lowering disposal or haul-off costs after removal or clearing work

What We Mill

Southwestern Ontario has some of the best hardwoods for milling, and we regularly work with a wide range of species, including:

  • Black walnut – highly valued for its rich dark grain, ideal for furniture and slabs
  • Red oak and white oak – strong, durable, and widely used in construction and woodworking
  • Hard maple and soft maple – versatile woods used for flooring, slabs, and general carpentry
  • Black cherry – known for its smooth grain and premium furniture applications
  • Ash – light, strong, and excellent for furniture and tool handles; also commonly available due to emerald ash borer impact
  • Hickory and beech – dense, tough hardwoods suited for heavy-duty use

Milling allows you to turn what would normally be removed into something usable, valuable, and long-lasting.

What We Produce

Our milling process turns logs into usable, high-quality material suited for both construction and custom projects.

  • Dimensional lumber – standard-sized boards ready for general building and framing
  • Live-edge slabs – wide, natural-edge boards ideal for tables, countertops, mantels, and custom furniture
  • Beams and timbers – heavy structural pieces used in post-and-beam construction and restoration work
  • Custom cuts – milled to your exact specifications for specialized projects or unique builds

How It Works

During the consultation, we look at your logs – species, size, condition, how long they’ve been down – and talk through what they’ll yield and what you want to make from them. Logs need to be reasonably clean of embedded metal and debris, since hidden nails and fence wire are hard on mill blades. Milled lumber needs to be dried before use, either air-dried or kiln-dried depending on the end purpose, and we’ll walk you through that process.

Saw Milling Pricing

Saw milling is typically priced by the hour, by the board foot, or by the job depending on what you’re milling and how much. We’ll give you a clear price after looking at the logs.

Very Sharpe service! I had 5 VERY large, dilapidated maple trees (5ft+ diameter) that needed to be taken down. I phoned Monday, received a quote within 24 hours, and had the trees taken care of by Friday. Communication was excellent with quality advice. I will definitely be using Sharpe Tree Service for any future work.

I would give Ron and crew at Sharpe Tree Service 10 stars if I could. They came out on short notice and did a very professional job and made short work of the task at hand. This company will definitely be my go-to tree service from now and in the future.
