Land Clearing vs. Lot Clearing
Land clearing covers larger acreage – multiple acres of raw or overgrown land, often involving terrain, drainage, and bush that’s been left for years. Lot clearing is the smaller-scale version for a defined building site under an acre (see our lot clearing page for that work). If your project is acreage rather than a building pad, this is the right service.

- Municipal tree-cutting and woodland conservation by-laws. Many counties – including Middlesex, Elgin, Lambton, and Chatham-Kent – regulate clearing of woodlands over certain sizes (typically 0.2 to 1 hectare depending on the by-law).
- Conservation Authority regulations near watercourses, wetlands, and floodplains. The Lower Thames Valley, Upper Thames River, St. Clair Region, Catfish Creek, and Kettle Creek Conservation Authorities each have permit requirements that affect clearing within their jurisdictions.
- Endangered Species Act protections for habitat of listed species.
- Drainage Act considerations on agricultural land near municipal drains.
- Migratory Birds Convention Act, which restricts clearing during active nesting season.
